Pharmacovigilance
Pharmacovigilance “is the science and activities related to the detection, assessment, understanding, and prevention of adverse effects or any other drug-related problems” (World Health Organization-2002). It arises from the need to evaluate the safety and effectiveness of medications available on the market to prevent unnecessary harm to patients. Pharmacovigilance is a shared responsibility involving different stakeholders: the health authority (COFEPRIS), pharmaceutical industry, distributors, pharmacies, and fundamentally, healthcare professionals and patients.
